Course Content

Learners should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Data Analysis Tools and the underlying principles and processes of data integration. Key areas are:

  1. Explain the purpose and outputs of data integration activities.
  2. Explain how data from multiple sources can be integrated to provide a unified view of the data.
  3. Describe how programming languages for statistical computing (SQL) can be applied to data integration activities, improving speed and data quality for analysis.
  4. Explain how to take account of data quality when preparing data for analysis, improving quality, accuracy and usefulness.
  5. Explain the nature and challenges of data volumes being processed through integration activities and how a programming approach can improve this.
  6. Understand testing requirements to ensure that unified data sets are correct, complete and up to date.
  7. Explain the capabilities (speed, cost, function) of statistical programming languages and software tools, when manipulating, processing and cleaning data and the tools required to solve analysis issues.
  8. Explain how statistical programming languages are used in preparing data for analysis and within analysis projects.
  • What is the course format and duration?
Prospective candidates can pursue this diploma by enrolling on this BCS/NCFE accredited training course. The estimated total time required to complete the qualification is 600 hours.
  • What are the days and times of the course?
    Evenings only – 5:30 pm – 8:30pm, or
Distance Learning only – times to be agreed on enrolment
  • Open Curriculum
The Certificate is applicable to two types of learners: those who are registered for a Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship program and those who wish to acquire a comprehensive understanding of big data analytics up to Level 4 standards.
  • What qualifications will I get?
    – Level 4 Certificate in Data Analyst Tools
  • Which Units will I be learning?
The programme is modular and consists of a selection and mixture of units referred to as Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs).
The syllabus includes the identification of a percentage and K level for each top-level area. The percentage represents the exam coverage of that specific area, while the K level indicates the maximum level of knowledge that may be tested for that area.

All Knowledge (K), Skills (S) and Behaviours (B) units are mandatory for this qualifications, thus:

  • Unit 1 – Processes and Tools Used for Data Integration (70%, K3)
  • Unit 2 – Industry Standard Tools and Methods for Data Analysis (30%, K3)

For apprenticeship learners, the selection criteria for this program will be determined by individual employers, but it will likely include the following: 5 GCSEs (particularly in English, mathematics, and a science or technology subject), other relevant qualifications and experience, or an IT skills-focused aptitude test. It is essential for learners to have a robust quantitative background and a sound understanding of statistics. They should also have experience working with statistical programming languages, database, and software tools like SQL, Python, and R. It is necessary to attain Level 2 English and Maths before taking the endpoint assessment, if not already achieved.

For other learners, it is highly recommended to have completed 5 GCSEs (with emphasis on English, mathematics, and a science or technology subject), other relevant qualifications and experience, or an IT skills-focused aptitude test. The selection criteria for learners may differ depending on the training provider. It is essential for learners to have a robust quantitative background and a sound understanding of statistics. They should also have experience working with statistical programming languages, database, and software tools like SQL, Python, and R.

The examination format for this program is a closed book one-hour multiple-choice test that comprises 40 questions. To pass the examination, the learners must score at least 26 out of 40 (equivalent to 65%). No materials are permitted to be brought into the examination room.

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are awarded a Diploma in Data Analyst and may progress by direct-entry to the Higher Diploma course. Apprentices (and other candidates as the case may be) maybe absorbed by their employer and/or exit to other employment and do well vocationally.

All students are required to pay the following fees:

  • The full apprenticeship programme fee is: £15,000 for 2 years
  • Other independent candidates via Online/remote Learning fee is: £299 per module
  • Distance Learning fee: £399
  • FREE
